A gnathologist is a specialist who eliminates problems caused by dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, as well as pathologies of the dentoalveolar system:

• Are localized in the temporomandibular joint and are caused by its dysfunction, as well as disc displacement.
• Determination of the correct central ratio of the jaws, which differ from the usual pathological occlusion.
• Determination of alveolar height. This distance is determined between the bone alveolar ridge on the upper and lower jaws.
• Planning and implementation of muscle relaxation therapy with the help of splints or separating caps. This is due to the presentation of complaints in response to the work of the facial and chewing muscles, accompanied by a feeling of infringement of a permanent or periodic nature.
• Restoration of the correct management of the lower jaw (movement of the lower dentition in different directions). Gnathology allows you to reproduce the separation between the canines and incisors.
• Reproduction of the anatomical chewing surface of the teeth. Gnathology restores efficient and gentle chewing in bruxism or generalized wear.

Methods and stages of joint treatment

The first thing a gnathologist dentist starts with is an examination and consultation. The doctor examines the oral cavity, assesses the closing of the teeth, the integrity of the dentition, collects a detailed history. Assesses the tone of the masticatory muscles, the presence of pain points, the range of motion of the upper and lower jaws, and the width of the mouth opening.

Functional diagnostics

To clearly define and understand the state of the dentition, we need to conduct functional diagnostics.
What is this? With the help of functional diagnostics, we record all movements of the lower jaw, how the lower jaw moves forward, left, right, forward and right, forward and left, all chewing movements, and even retrusion (for example, when you sleep or lie down your muscles of the lower jaw pull your jaw back).
We also record all articular angles and accurately determine the position of the lower jaw relative to the upper, and also determine the correct position of the lower jaw, which should be.

This is the most accurate and modern method of dentistry.

Functional diagnostics consists of several stages:

The first stage is the removal of accurate impressions, which takes about 40 minutes. time, because we need to very accurately remove and transfer all the hollows and tubercles on the teeth.

The second stage – we transfer these prints to the laboratory, according to which the technician produces individual plates for the upper and lower jaws.

The third stage – with the help of these plates, we record your articular angles and movements of the lower jaw.

The fourth stage is the determination of the position of the lower jaw relative to the upper jaw and the plastering of models in a special device for reproducing the movements of the lower jaw – a conduit.

The fifth stage is the analysis and discussion of the clinical situation and the preparation of an accurate treatment plan.

The treatment plan may include
• occlusal splints,
• digital spleen therapy,
• orthodontic appliances,
• orthopedic constructions.
