The word restoration is translated from Latin as restoration. You can recover and restore a tooth using several methods and it depends on the level of tooth damage.

Methods and duration of tooth restoration

A small chip or a not wide gap between the teeth (diastema) can be corrected by direct artistic restoration with composite materials in one visit to the dentist. It takes place directly in the patient’s mouth.

Modern composites have the property of letting light through, so you cannot visually distinguish where your tooth is and where the restoration is. The duration of such restoration can be from 15 minutes to several hours, depending on the volume of work.

If the tooth is partially destroyed, depending on the volume, it can be restored again with photopolymers or with the help of a crown (indirect restoration). Crowns are made in the laboratory by a dental technician while the patient wears a temporary crown.

At least two visits to the dentist are required. Usually, crowns are made within a week.

For the cosmetic artistic restoration of teeth, there are componers (veneers, luminaries), these are ultra-thin ready-made plates (American, Swiss), which, after minor preparation of the tooth, are glued to the frontal (front) side. The service life of veneers is 10-15 years.

Previously, only world-class stars could afford veneers. It takes about two hours for two veneers, accordingly, a larger number will take longer.

Indirect restoration is also used when the tip of the tooth is completely destroyed and there is only the root. After removing the nerves, an insert, a pin, is placed in the root of the tooth, it strengthens the root itself, carries the load. The second function is the basis for the crown, which is worn on it. The term with treatment is up to two weeks.

And there is a case when the root of the tooth is not suitable for treatment and preservation and aesthetic restoration is impossible, the root is removed and an implant is inserted in its place.

Contraindications for artistic restoration of teeth

Periodontitis, gingivitis (gums must be treated first);
Caries (without caries treatment, the restoration will not last long);
Young age (children’s teeth are restored with different materials than adults, because the teeth are in the growth stage);
Allergy to materials and components;
Bruxism (doctor’s consultation is required);
It is not possible to fix the rubber dam.

Which tooth restoration to choose

In terms of price, the artistic restoration of teeth with photopolymer materials and restoration with veneers or with the help of crowns differ significantly, crowns are more expensive than polymers, veneers are more expensive than both polymers and crowns.

On the other hand, the perfect smoothness of photopolymer restorations can only be achieved with the help of polishing once every 6 months, while veneers and luminaries are perfect and equal in smoothness to natural teeth. So, when making a decision, consider this point.

If the teeth are preserved and you have the financial opportunity, it is better to restore the teeth with veneers. Veneers do not darken over time like polymer restorations, which can absorb the color of colored products such as coffee.
