In most cases, the prolonged absence of one or more teeth on the upper jaw leads to depletion of bone tissue, so the bone simply decreases in size.

This unpleasant moment can lead not only to the movement of the teeth, changes in facial expressions, but also the insufficient amount of bone tissue makes it impossible to perform dental implant surgery.

To solve this problem, the DentalKnysh dental clinic performs sinus lifting – a surgical operation to lift the mucous membrane of the bottom of the maxillary sinus and increase the volume of bone tissue.

The duration of this operation is about one hour, it is performed under local anesthesia, sometimes with immersion in medicated sleep.

Sinus lifting: types

Bone augmentation during dental implantation can be performed by one of the following methods:

Open sinus lifting

It is used when there is a large lack of bone tissue (thickness 2-3 mm).

The open sinus lift operation is performed through a specially created access (hole in the side wall of the maxillary sinus), which is filled with artificial bone material.

Closed sinuslifting

It is used when there is a minimal lack of bone tissue (average thickness of 5-7 mm).

The closed sinus lift operation does not require additional incisions, and the bone material is inserted through the formed hole for the implant.
